Welcome to the home of Labrador West
Housing & Homelessness Coalition

Our History.
Housing has been a concern for Labrador West for many years due to our boom and bust economy. The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) formed a Community Advisory Panel in 2006 consisting of community stakeholders with the purpose of engagement and consultation of relevant community issues. Recognizing the growing concerns around housing, a Housing Working Group was formed.

HOUSING ISSUES EMERGE
Housing affordability and availability emerged as Labrador West’s key challenge to sustainable economic development and quality of life at the CAP table. As a result, people across the income spectrum were finding it increasingly difficult to secure safe, affordable, accessible housing.

LWHHC IS ESTABLISHED
It became apparent that a standalone group would better enable us to work on the housing concerns of Labrador West. In September 2010, the Labrador West Housing and Homelessness Coalition (LWHHC) was established.

PARTNERSHIP WITH STAKEHOLDERS
In partnership with community stakeholders and funding through the Homelessness Partnering Strategy, LWHHC released A Home for Me: Labrador West Community Plan on Housing and Homelessness in March 2011. The recommendations put forward shaped much of the work that has been done by LWHHC.

LWHHC BECOMES INCORPORATED
0n January 16, 2012 Labrador West Housing and Homelessness Coalition was granted Incorporation with Registry of Companies and Deeds with the NL government with a vision that every individual in Labrador West have a place to call home.
